MAJOR:
African-American Studies and Sociology
STUDY ABROAD:

THESIS:

I am working on a thesis that explores the various demographic groups on the Wesleyan campus and analyzing in what academic groups they are present. From this thesis, I hope to provide ways to better incorporate groups of various backgrounds into more academic programs and distinctions.

FAVORITE
CLASS:
Junior Colloquium with Professor Demetrius Eudell is the most captivating class that I have ever taken in my educational career. This course was comprised of junior African American Studies majors and we were able to discuss how the ideology of race functions in our system of knowledge. Every week we would read at least 150 pages on how race functions within a specific discipline. This course trained me to think critically, and sometimes skeptically, about the way in which society is formed.
CAMPUS
ACTIVITIES:
I was involved with the Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA) for two years of my Wesleyan career. With the WSA, I was able to organize many events that brought the Wesleyan community and local residents together including the Middletown Mayoral Debate as a sophomore. I am also involved in Ujamaa (BlackStudents Association), Invisible Men (Men of Color group), and the Social Justice Leadership Conference.
OUTSIDE
WESLEYAN:
Outside Wesleyan, I work extensively with an Upward Bound program located at my high school. Horizons-Upward Bound is a nonprofit organization that provides resources to at-risk students in Metro Detroit to help the students achieve their goal of obtaining a higher education. Every summer for the past three years, I have worked with this Upward Bound as a resident advisor for its 6-week summer residential component.
FAVORITE WESLEYAN EXPERIENCE:
Depending on the day, my favorite Wesleyan experience will change; however, my earliest and most memorable experience took place after I was appointed to my position on the Wesleyan Student Assembly as a freshman, and my entire hall walked down to Main Street to celebrate my accomplishment. This celebration turned into an expensive tradition for my friend group, simply because we would go to Main Street to celebrate all of our accomplishments.
AFTER
WESLEYAN:

After Wesleyan, I plan on going to graduate school to pursue a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration.
