I graduated from a small college preparatory school in a small town, and it was extremely different from the Wesleyan experience. I love playing football, working with music, and community affairs. In high school we had free tutoring programs, cookouts, and I loved being a mentor to younger kids in school. Coming from Louisiana, the transition to Wesleyan definitely was a culture shock. I knew it would be difficult to go from a large spread city to a college town, but I knew my motives didn’t change. Helping others still is extremely important to me, and that is partially the reason why I wanted to work in Admissions and contribute to the Open house programs and WesFest!

I know I can give a different answer regarding why I chose Wesleyan everytime the question is asked because Wesleyan has a myriad of options to choose from. Wesleyan was a school that I didn’t know existed until the end of my junior year of high school. It was far away from home, a small liberal arts institution, and had an open curriculum. These things happened to be exactly what I was looking for. I came to Wesleyan in the fall of my senior year on an Open House, Fly-In program and fell in love. The closeness of the campus, and the nurturing environment that I felt when I got here made me realize that this was the school for me. I wanted to go to school far away from home so I could truly depend on myself and take my destiny into my own hands, without my parents being a car ride away. I felt that Wesleyan was a place for me to grow as a person, student, and as a contributor to society. The open curriculum allowed me to have time to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life right away, but I had the opportunity to experience different fields and be involved in a variety of courses.
