Men's Hoops Rallies from 12 Back to Take 2nd-Half Lead but Can't Hold on as Skidmore Prevails in NCAA Tilt, 81-66

Despite recovering from a 12-point halftime deficit by starting the second period on a stellar 13-0 tear, Wesleyan, the NESCAC tournament champion (bottom photo) came up short in its bid for a first-ever NCAA Division III tournament win as Skidmore pulled ahead midway through the second half and went on to claim an 81-66 victory. It was just the sixth meeting of the teams and the first in 10 years as the series drew even at 3-3. Skidmore advances to the second round, facing the winner of the Johns Hopkins-Keene St. game Sat., March 7 at Hopkins. With two inside jumpers by Joseph Kuo '17 to begin the second-half Cardinal run, Wesleyan added a driving layup and free throw by Jack Mackey '16 (#24, middle photo, top), a three-pointer by Harry Rafferty '17 and three free throws from Rashid Epps '16 (#00, right side photo, top) to take a 45-44 lead with 13:51 to go, its first lead since holding a 7-5 edge at the 16:16 mark on the first half. Wesleyan extended the difference to 53-50, matching the team's largest lead of the game.
