Cardinals Capture Six First-Place Finishes During Swanson Invitational - Final Home Meet is Little Three
The Cardinals had six different individuals claim a top prize during the annual Elmer Swanson Invitational meet in Middletown Sat., April 7. The meet was attended by Eastern Conn., Union and Manhattanville along with Wesleyan in the non-scoring meet.
Cardinal winners included LaDarius Drew '15 (left side photo) in the 200m dash with a solid time of :22.38. Victorious in the 800m race was Sam Roth '13 (right side photo courtesy of Mickey Curtis) in a time oif 1:59.58. Austin Cotant '13 got the job done in the 1500m race (4:04.37) as did Skyler Cummins '13 in the 3k (8:35.15). Wesleyan also captured a pair of field events as Alex Iwamoto '12 took the triple jump (44-7) and Chris Gregor '14 won the discus (107-3).
Wesleyan will be looking to rack up lots of team points when Amherst and Williams come to Middletown Sat., April 21 for the annual Little Three Championships in the team's final home meet. A year ago, the Cardinals trailed the Lord Jeffs for second place by 14.5 points. Williams has been virtually untouchable for first place in Little Three track meets, riding a string of 22 straight titles. Before hosting the Little Three meet, the Cardinals will attend the Minuteman Invitational at UMass Amherst Sat., April 14.
