Netting her fourth hat trick of the season with three goals in the opening 15 minutes of the game, Meredith Smith '17 (#29, photo) was integral in keeping Wesleyan close against the #1-ranked team in Division III, Trinity, on the road Tues., April 7. When Smith picked up her team-high 24th goal of the season with 15:21 left in the first half on a free-position shot while Wesleyan was short a player due to a yellow card, Wesleyan drew within a goal at 4-3. But Trinity used a 3-1 burst over the final 15 minutes of the period,, and a 2-0 start to the second half to ease ahead by five goals, 9-4. Goals from Morgan Moubayed '17, her seventh, and Leah Sherman '15, her 18th, both on free position shots, narrowed the difference to three at 9-6 with 15:09 to go. But that was as close as the Cardinals would get against their fourth straight nationally top-12 opponent on the squad's schedule.
