How to Find a Job & Work On-Campus

BEFORE YOUR FIRST DAY OF WORK:

To be hired for a campus job, students must complete the University's required employment forms, including I-9s and setting up direct deposit, before their first day of work. We encourage students who are considering working on-campus to complete these steps before or during the job application and hiring process.

Visit Payroll Help and attach your completed I-9 form and copies of your ID(s) by clicking on the paperclip at the bottom right. Be sure you have the original copies of your forms and ID(s) with you on-campus. If you are an F-1 international student or a non-US citizen please go to WesPortal > Campus Applications > Documents Required for non-US Citizens to find and complete required forms to work on-campus.

It is the combined responsibility of the student and supervisor to ensure that the student has completed the necessary paperwork with the Payroll Office before a student works any hours.

Get Started on Handshake

A wide variety of on and off-campus positions are posted on Handshake for Wesleyan students.

Before applying to positions, we encourage Wesleyan students to build their profiles on Handshake to indicate their interest areas, showcase their skills and accomplishments, and stand out to potential employers. Review the resources below to learn how to navigate Handshake and set up your account.

Write & Review your Resume

Review the Gordon Career Center's resume writing resources and meet with a career advisor for a resume review appointment before uploading your document on Handshake. W

Wesleyan undergraduates must have their resumes reviewed and approved by the Gordon Career Center in order to apply to positions posted on Handshake. Resumes uploaded to Handshake are reviewed within 2-3 business days, based on the criteria outlined in the GCC's resume approval checklist. Most documents require some revisions before being approved, so plan ahead and allow at least a week for the review and approval process.

We strongly encourage students to schedule a resume review appointment to work on crafting their resume with a Peer Career Advisor -- this step will help to expedite the resume approval process. Students are only required to go through the Center's document review and approval process for the first resume they upload.

Resume approval is not required to be considered for on-campus jobs. If a student's resume is not yet approved on Handshake and they wish to apply to a position that requests a resume, they can apply by sending their resume via email to studentemployment@wesleyan.edu
