Late, Cancellation, and No-Show Policies

We understand that as busy students and alumni your schedule may change unexpectedly. However, except in the case of a sudden illness or emergency, when you schedule a career advising appointment or an on-campus interview, or RSVP for an event that requires pre-registration, we expect you to attend.

Please carefully review the Gordon Career Center's late, cancellation, and no-show policies as they pertain to advising appointments, events that require pre-registeration, and on-campus interviews below.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Appointment Policies

When requesting an advising appointment, be sure to check your schedule to avoid multiple late arrivals and/or cancellations. Please review our appointment cancellation, late, and no-show policies below. These policies apply to all GCC advising appointment categories and types. If you are sick, we appreciate your staying home until you are feeling better.

Cancellation
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please do so at least 24-hours in advance; There is high-demand for appointments and early notification allows us to offer your time slot to another student. Appointments can be canceled online on Handshake, via phone (860-685-2180) or email (careercenter@wesleyan.edu), or in-person at the GCC.

Appointments canceled less than 24-hours in advance of the appointment will be marked as a “no-show” in Handshake.

Late Arrival Policy
It’s important to arrive on time for your scheduled advising appointment. Students who arrive more than 10-minutes late to an appointment may be marked as a “no-show” in Handshake and may be asked to reschedule their appointment.

No-Show Policy
A student or alumna/us is considered a “no-show” if they miss their appointment with the Gordon Career Center without notifying the office, cancel their appointment less than 24-hours before the start of the appointment, or arrive more than 10-minutes late to their appointment.

  • First No-Show: If you no-show for a scheduled appointment, the appointment will be marked as a “no-show” on Handshake. You will receive an email alerting you of the missed appointment and of the GCC’s no-show appointment policy.
  • Second No-Show: If you are a no-show for a scheduled appointment for a second time within the same academic year, you will be suspended from requesting an advising appointment for 2-weeks from the date of the missed appointment. Any future scheduled appointments will be canceled and need to be rescheduled after the 2-week appointment suspension has passed. You will receive an email alerting you of your second missed appointment and of the GCC’s no-show appointment policy.
  • Third No-Show: If you are a no-show for a scheduled advising appointment for a third time within the same academic year, your Handshake privileges will be suspended until you meet in-person with the Director of the Gordon Career Center to discuss your no-show appointments. You will be unable to access your Handshake account until this appointment is completed. You will receive an email alerting you of your third missed appointment and of the GCC’s no-show appointment policy.

No-shows will be reset/cleared at the start of each academic year and will not carry over from year to year.

Pre-Registration Required Event Policies

Most of the GCC’s events and programs encourage but do not require registration. However, select events do require pre-registration and are often limited in capacity. These events often have a waitlist of students wishing to attend. Therefore, if for any reason you can no longer attend the event, it is important that you cancel your event registration with as much advanced notice as possible, so that another student may be able to attend in your absence.

Events that require pre-registration will state that explicitly in the event page on Handshake.

Cancellation Policy
To cancel your event registration more than 24-hours in advance, simply update your event registration on the Handshake event page, or visit or call the Gordon Career Center, 860-685-2180. If you cancel your event registration less than 24-hours in advance of the start time of the event, you will be considered a “no-show.”

No-Show Policy
Students and alumni are considered “no-shows” for events that require pre-registration when they fail to cancel their registration less than 24-hours in advance of the event start time or when they fail to attend the event without notice altogether.

If you are a “no-show” for an event that requires pre-registration, you will be marked as such on Handshake and your Handshake privileges will be suspended until you meet in-person with the Director of the Gordon Career Center to discuss your no-show. You will be unable to access your Handshake account until this meeting is completed.

On-Campus Interview Policies

If you are granted an interview by an employer, and subsequently, accept it, you are expected to attend.

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your on-campus interview due to an emergency, you must do so at least 24-hours in advance. If your interview is on a Monday, notify by the previous Friday by 12 p.m., at the latest. You must contact Emma Walsh, Assistant Director of Internships and Campus Recruiting, directly at ewalsh02@wesleyan.edu and call the Career Center 860-685-2180.

Interviews canceled less than 24-hours in advance of your scheduled interview time will result in a suspension of your Handshake privileges until you meet in-person with the Director of the Gordon Career Center to discuss your missed interview. You will also be required to write a formal letter of apology to both the employer and the Gordon Career Center. You will be unable to access your Handshake account until both of these items are completed.

No-Show Policy
If you fail to alert the Gordon Career Center of your interview cancellation, you will be considered a no-show to your interview. Your Handshake privileges will be suspended until the director determines when/if account privileges are reinstated. You will be required to meet in-person with the Director of the Gordon Career Center to discuss your no-show interview. You will also be required to write a letter to both the employer and the Gordon Career Center. You will receive an email alerting you and of the GCC’s on-campus recruiting policy.

If an emergency occurs and you need to cancel within 24-hours of your interview, please notify the Assistant Director for Internships and Campus Recruiting immediately. Situations will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
