Since the majority of the Center for Creative Youth program is predicated on the in-person curriculum and experience, and the community bonds forged while on campus, we have determined, after careful review, that the Center for Creative Youth program will not offer an online learning alternative this summer. CCY will be on hiatus for 2020.

We share in the disappointment felt by our students and staff. We were looking forward to working with the exceptional pool of talented young artists who applied from all over the world. We have every hope that we will be able to offer a robust program in 2021, and look forward to planning for future opportunities.

Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions. We hope you remain safe and in good spirits.

How to Apply

The Center for Creative Youth is open to all high school students ages 14-18. Students must have completed at least one year of high school, demonstrate a maturity level that proves readiness for a residential program and be focused on the arts. Selection is based on a written application, an audition/portfolio review, and a residential interview. You must apply online on Acceptd.com by clicking here.

Online Application

Along with your online application, please be prepared to submit the following.

  1. Two Teacher Recommendations: We are seeking one recommendation from an arts teacher and one recommendation from a non-arts teacher (a guidance counselor, academics teacher or an adult in the community). Teachers may complete the form provided in the online application (The form is sent directly to the email address you provide for each teacher, and is uploaded automatically to your application once they complete it) OR write a letter of recommendation that gives us an estimate of your ability in your chosen art form. This letter should discuss personal characteristics, such as initiative, reliability, leadership, and ability to work with others.
  2. Photo: Please submit a photo of yourself. This photo will appear on our Friends and Faces poster upon acceptance, so please make sure it is a clear photo of your face (photo size on the poster is 1x1 inch)

All applicants must audition regardless of their area of concentration. We have options to audition live, to submit a video audition, or to submit your portfolio for review. Based on your concentration of choice and availability to attend the Connecticut auditions; please select the appropriate Program Group to start your application.

Each audition will include an evaluation of work by the departmental instructor and a residential interview with a member of the CCY residential staff.

All applicants are encouraged to attend the main audition at Wesleyan University for a broad experience of the campus, staff, and other applicants. Applicants unable to attend are required to submit electronically – with the same deadlines as live auditions.

For complete information including dates and locations, visit the Auditions page.

Important update: In-person auditions at Wesleyan University scheduled for this Saturday, March 14, 2020 have been CANCELLED

All students who were planning to attend this event will need to submit videos, writing samples or pictures of their portfolio online.

Those unable to attend an audition in person can apply online by submitting the required files with their application.

You'll be notified of your acceptance starting April 3, 2020. (If you are applying late, you will be notified once your audition material is reviewed and your interviews are completed.)

Late Applications

Please email the office at ccy@wesleyan.edu or call 860-685-3341 to confirm space availability. If space is available in your art form concentration, we will consider accepting a late application. We will continue to recruit and accept students until all disciplines are full, but rarely will have tuition assistance available for students applying past the deadline. Please call the office for details should you need to submit a late application.

Financial Aid

The 2020 Financial Aid Form is available here.

CCY offers all potential students the opportunity to apply for financial aid.  We make every effort to see that no deserving student is denied access to the program due to economic disadvantage. Financial need is determined by a committee of Wesleyan's Continuing Studies and Financial Aid staff, using formulas similar to the federal needs analysis methodology used by FAFSA. Scholarships are awarded based on the demonstrated need levels of the family.

If you are intending to apply for any amount of financial aid, please download, complete and submit the application for financial aid.

The application deadline is Friday, March, 27, 2020. The 2020 Financial Aid Form is available here.
