As of July 1, 2021, University sponsored travel is now permitted to countries with a CDC alert level of 3 or lower. Travelers are strongly encouraged to submit a Travel Registry form and register with the U.S. Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. If you encounter difficulties while abroad, registering will help the University to coordinate health insurance and assistance. All faculty and staff have access to University-provided health insurance while traveling abroad, regardless of whether they normally carry Wesleyan-provided health insurance.
The State Department provides updates, alerts, and assistance to U.S. citizens abroad.
- Travel Registry
Faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to complete a Travel Registry form when they travel abroad. This will ensure that they are provided with the most up to date information regarding travel health insurance, and that the University knows where they are in case of emergency.
- International SOS/Cigna
The University has a contract with International SOS, a medical and travel security services company, which covers not only Wesleyan students, but staff and faculty traveling abroad for university business/scholarly research as well. Most significantly, International SOS will guarantee emergency medical funds upfront (Cigna only provides later reimbursement). The company also offers advice & assistance for situations such as loss of medication or travel documents while abroad, and arrangements for family visitation in the case of medical emergencies overseas.
The University's membership number can be obtained by emailing Amy Walsh in the Human Resources office, or by completing a Travel Registry form, which triggers an email with the relevant information.
- State Department STEP Program
Please register your travel with the State Department at https://step.state.gov/ so that you can receive alerts and help the U.S. Embassy in your destination country contact you in case of emergency. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you are strongly encouraged to register with any similar program in your country of citizenship.
