Job Title: Senior Interviewer
Date: 4/22/20
Employer: Office of Admission
Address: 70 Wyllys Avenue, Middletown, CT 06459

The Senior Interviewer position is a professional internship with the Office of Admission. We seek mature and responsible candidates with the ability to represent Wesleyan honestly, enthusiastically, and articulately. The position is open to all members of the Class of 2021 in good standing. Applications are due to the Office of Admission by Sunday, May 11.

Due to the closure of campus for all summer programming, the summer component of the Senior Interviewer position will be moving to a reimagined, virtual model.  Summer positions will not be full-time, but as we move into July and August there are likely to be significant hours available approaching a full time scenario.  This will allow for a great number of SI’s to work during the summer.  Please see the email sent to the Class of 2021, and direct all questions to Chris Lanser at

Senior Interviewers conduct admission interviews with prospective students, co-lead information sessions with the admission deans, interact with families and students, attend admission events on and off campus, sit on panels for our Open House programs and during WesFest, and may be given the opportunity to read admission applications in January and February. You are also expected to engage in other office related tasks such as data entry, answering phones and emails, scheduling interviews, etc. We expect that you will work 7-10 hours per week and every other Saturday during the fall semester from 8:30am-1pm. There are also occasional lunchtime meetings, either paid time or lunch provided, not more often than every other week. The hourly rate for Senior Interviewers during the academic year is $12.00 per hour.

Training is mandatory and will take place at the end of the semester, May 20-22; due to logistical and budget complications training is unpaid but you will be well-fed, and you will be granted extended stay in your current housing during Senior Week.

Summer Opportunity:
We hire approximately six Senior Interviewers to work full-time during the summer, from mid-June through September 1. There is no summer-only option, you must work both the summer and fall. Because the pace of visitors picks up over the course of the summer at the onset, in mid June, we may need only three or four SI’s in the office, and then will add to the staff as the summer progresses. If you have commitments or opportunities at the beginning or end of the summer, you may be able to work as a summer SI for the other portion. Unpaid time off is available by request with sufficient prior notice and given the needs of the office, and any SI who commits to working the entire summer will be able to take time off. Summer SI's work M-F, 8:30am-4:30pm and receive $14 per hour and fully subsidized on-campus housing. Being a summer SI offers greater exposure to working in higher education and the opportunity to work more closely with the deans on specific projects. Because summer is a very busy time in the office, preference will be given to those who are able to work at that time. Any changes in your summer availability after your application is submitted may impact your candidacy.

Students studying abroad:
We will hire all twenty Senior Interviewers this spring. Students studying abroad in Spring '20 are welcome to apply and, should the strength of the written application merit it, will be interviewed via Skype. You are eligible to apply for the summer internship if you are not on campus this semester.
