Screw Consent

Screw Consent, or the Antiracist Politics of Public Sex

Joe Fischel • Yale University

September 20th @ 6 P.M. in DHC/DAC Tent (aka Hogwarts)

Some really terrible sex is consensual. Some sex is really terrible because it’s consensual. Touring through cases of sex that are atypical, non-normative, or just weird, Joe Fischel levels three charges against consent as our guarantor of sexual freedom: it is insufficient, often inapposite, and riddled with scope contradictions. Fischel concludes his talk with reflections on the recent debates around kink and public nudity at Pride parades. The allegation that kink at Pride violates onlookers’ consent is not only foolish but also racist and bad for children.
