Library hold and recall requests

On-shelf hold service for faculty

Items available in the library stacks may be put on hold. On weekdays items will be available for pickup within 24 hours of the request. Any requests placed on weekends will be filled the next weekday.

To place an on-shelf hold request:

  • Search for the title in OneSearch.
  • Click 'Sign in' the top right corner of the page.
  • Click on the title of the book you’d like to have retrieved from the stacks.
  • Click on the Request link, then click Request again to submit the request.
  • A confirmation screen will appear, indicating the request is placed.
  • You will be notified via email when your item is available for pickup.
  • Pick up your item within 7 days of being notified. After 7 days the item will be returned to the stacks.
Note: On-shelf requests are not for placing requests for Reserves materials.

Recall requests

When an item is loaned out to a patron and requested by another patron, a recall is created on the item.

A recalled item must be returned sooner than the original due date, so that another library patron may use it. This helps us balance the needs of the current borrower with the needs of other users who may need the same materials.

How to recall a library item

If you have an item which has been recalled:

  • when an item is recalled, you will be notified by email
  • you will have 7 days to return the item (unless it is overdue, in which case it becomes due immediately)
  • if a recalled item becomes overdue, you will be charged a recall overdue fine of $7/day (maximum fine of $70 per item) and your library privileges will be suspended until it is returned.
  • you cannot renew an item that has been recalled
