All students have access to borrow through these services:

You can also suggest a purchase for the library collection.

In addition, we can help you gain access to libraries of other institutions that have materials you may wish to use.  Some libraries of private institutions allow non-affiliated users to access their collections only if they have a letter of introduction from a librarian stating that the material is not available at the requestor’s institution. If you know that a restricted access library has specific items which you need and which we do not have, contact the Reference Department in Olin (860-685-3873) for a letter of introduction.

Info for New Students

There are two libraries on campus.  See the libraries highlighted on the campus map.

  • Olin Library on Church St
  • Science Library ("SciLi") in the Exley Science building on Church St

Both libraries have quiet study areas, group study rooms, and "nap machines" that provide a place to take a 20-minute power nap in the library.

Your Wesleyan ID card is your library card -- use it to borrow library materials.  Review our loan periods to find out how long you can keep library items.  You can check your library account or renew online using your WesID and last name.

The library subscribes to a wide array of online resources including articles, ebooks, music and images.  When on campus you can access these resources directly through the library home page.  When accessing any of them from off-campus, you will need to begin at our off-campus access page and use your Wesleyan login to authenticate.

You can get help using the library or with your research in a multitude of ways.  Self-service through our Library FAQ or LibGuides; the reference staff offers help in person at the reference desk, through online chat, email, telephone or text; or make an appointment for focused one-on-one research assistance at any point in your research process.

All three libraries have multi-function devices that you can use to scan materials to PDF or TIFF files and email to yourself.  You will use the same devices to print or photocopy.  You should bring your Wesleyan ID card for easiest access to these devices.  From library computers, print to the "Printers" print queue, then walk up to the print/copy/scan devices and swipe your card to see your print jobs.  You can also install print drivers to your laptop or desktop computer that will allow you to print to any library printer (whether you are in the library or across campus!)

Study Abroad

Many library materials and services are available to you during your study abroad.  Here are some suggestions for using our library from anywhere in the world:

Online resources

You have full access to library online resources (journals, databases, etc.) from off-campus.  To make sure you can access them, be sure to access online library resources through the off-campus access page. Log in with your Wesleyan e-mail username and password when prompted.

InterLibrary Loan

You can place interlibrary loan requests for articles.  These will be delivered electronically to your InterLibrary Loan account as PDFs.

Research assistance

We will be happy to work with you to meet your library research needs, wherever you are. See our Reference Assistance page for a variety of ways to contact us.

Thesis writers, please note:  If you plan to write a thesis that will be based on publications you find while you are abroad, please bear in mind that it is often difficult for the Interlibrary Loan Department to gain timely access to unpublished or non-English materials, or foreign government publications.

Graduate Students

In addition to the services and resources we offer to all students (see Using the Library, Borrowing, Doing Research, and Writing & Citing), grad students receive longer loan periods.

Graduate Students' Guide to Wesleyan Library Resources - a guide for graduate students in the sciences.  This guide provides some recommended starting points for graduate research in the sciences as well as information about library services.
