Subject: Cold Weather Tips for Housing Units

Dear Students,

There is severe cold weather predicted in the upcoming days and we wanted to take this time to share a couple of things you can do to help ensure that the cold weather does not adversely affect your housing unit.  Please read below for some additional information/tips:

·         Be sure all windows and entry doors are closed and secure

·         If it feels too warm call Customer Service (860-685-3400).  Refrain from opening a window to try to remediate it.

·         Be sure the thermostat is set to at least 65

·         Report any concerns immediately to Physical Plant (860-685-3400).  If it’s after hours, contact Public Safety (860-685-2345 or 860-685-3333).

·         For wood frames only: if a pipe is in an exterior wall, consider opening the cabinet to allow warmer air to circulate around the pipes.

Thanks for your consideration and assistance,
The Residential Life Staff
