Subject: Flu Season Info
Importance: High

To the Campus Community,

Welcome back to campus after a hopefully restful and refreshing break.

As you probably know, this is influenza season and the Centers of Disease Control expect that this may be a particularly tough season.

Most states have already reported high flu activity.

It is important to stress how to care for oneself in light of the flu season that is upon us.

1)      If you have not received the influenza vaccine, please strongly consider this.  Although, the circulating strain of flu is not covered by this year’s vaccine, the vaccine still has protective value and can decrease the severity of the flu if you do contract it.  Many local pharmacies within our area still have vaccine available.

2)      Please call Davison Health Center (860-685-2470) if you think you may have the flu:  abrupt onset of fever, cough, body aches, headache and fatigue.  Please do not walk in without call the Health Center.  When one walks in to our clinic, they may wait a long period of time to be seen and may be exposing other students to the flu.  Please call and speak with a nurse who will triage you based on your symptoms.

3)      Preventative measures:

  1. Hand washing with soap and water or hand sanitizer:  this is an extremely effective method to decrease the spread of infection.
  2. Cough into the crook of your elbow and not into your hand.  Definitely do not cough into the air as infected droplets of saliva can travel pretty far.
  3. Do not share drinks, utensils, toothbrushes or kiss mouth to mouth.

As the semester progresses, we will keep the campus community updated on the status of influenza here in Middletown.

Our wishes for a great Spring Semester.
