To the Wesleyan community:

I am writing with an update to the public health advisory I sent out earlier this week regarding the novel strain of the coronavirus, which causes a respiratory illness. A student who was at a large international airport where another person was identified to have the coronavirus presented at the health center with a cough and fever. Out of an abundance of caution, we are presently working with the state Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control to determine if the student has contracted the coronavirus or not. No diagnosis has been confirmed yet.

The student is in isolation, and we are providing healthcare and other services. We have been in touch with everyone with whom the student had close contact since returning to campus in order to monitor them. To date, none of these individuals have exhibited symptoms of concern.

As I wrote in my earlier message, if you have a cough and fever, and have recently been to China or have been exposed to a person with known coronavirus, please seek immediate medical attention.

We will keep the campus apprised of any substantive developments.
