Dear Wesleyan Students:

On Sunday evening Public Safety received a report that a student was physically assaulted by an individual shortly after midnight the previous night. This incident occurred near the observatory on the Wesleyan campus. The suspect is described as a college age male with curly hair, wearing a dark hoodie style sweatshirt and a blue/white checkered shirt.  He was with two other males.  No description of them is available.

The student related that she had a prior problem with the suspect earlier while attending a party on High Street.   It remains unknown if the suspect is a Wesleyan student.  Public Safety is working with the Middletown Police and campus resources on a coordinated investigation. If you have any information regarding this matter please contact Public Safety at 860-685-2345.

Although there appears to be no continuing risk to the Wesleyan community, it is important that students review the risk reduction tips listed below and consider participating in bystander intervention training.  This is especially true  now that the amount of daylight is decreasing as we move into the fall / winter season.  Remember that officers are available 24/7 to assist you.

Risk reduction tips:

Avoid walking alone after dark

When walking at night stay in well-lit areas

Whenever possible utilize the RIDE service

Never get into a vehicle with someone you do not know

Always lock residential doors and windows

Do not allow people unknown to you or your housemates into your residence

Report any suspicious activity immediately to Public Safety

If you are in a life-threatening emergency call 9-1-1 promptly from your cell phone.
