2021-2022 Honor Board Case Summaries

Regulation 1[Assistance without acknowledgement]  The attempt to give or obtain assistance in a formal academic exercise without due acknowledgment.  This includes, but is not limited to: cheating during an exam; helping another student to cheat or to plagiarize; completing a project for someone and/or asking someone to complete a project for you. 

Regulation 2[Plagiarism]  The presentation of another person’s words, ideas, images, data, or research as one’s own.  Plagiarism is more than lifting a text word-for-word, even from sources in the public domain.  Paraphrasing or using any content or terms coined by others without proper acknowledgment also constitutes plagiarism.  

Regulation 3 – [The submission of the same work for academic credit more than once without permission.] 

Regulation 4[Willful falsification of data, information, or citations in any formal exercise.]   

In an Honor Code violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that Student A violated Regulation 1 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found Student A responsible for violating Regulation 1 of the Honor Code.  Student A received an “F” grade for the TA course and was restricted  from being able to TA/CA for the 2022/2023 academic year.

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that Students A, B, C and D violated Regulations 1, 2 and 5 of the Wesleyan Honor Code.  The Board found Student A and B responsible for all three violations.  Students A and B received a “0” zero grade on the three assignments.  The Board found Student C and D responsible for violating Regulations 2 and 5, but not Regulation 1.   Students C and D received partial credit to the two assignments. 

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that Students A and B violated Regulation 1 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found student A responsible.  Student A did not receive credit for the relevant quiz question and was placed on probation.  Student B was found not responsible and no sanctions were imposed. 

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that a student violated Regulation 2 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found the student responsible for violating Regulation 2.  The Student received a letter grade demotion in the Thesis tutorial and was placed on probation for the remainder of the semester.  

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that Students A and B violated Regulation 1 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found the students responsible for violating Regulation 1 and recommended Student A receive a letter grade demotion for the final exam and student B receive a zero on the final exam. Both students were placed on probation.

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that a Student had violated Regulation 2 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found the student not responsible for this violation and no sanction was imposed.

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that a Student had violated Regulation 2 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found this student responsible for violating Regulation 2 and the student received a grade of “0” zero on the assignment and a suspension for one semester.

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that a Student had violated Regulation 1 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found the student responsible for violating Regulation 1.  The student received a “0” zero grade for the assignment and was placed on probation.

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that a Student had violated Regulation 1 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found the Student responsible for violating Regulation 1.  The student received a 50% grade for the assignment, required to secure peer tutoring and was placed on probation.  

In an Honor Code Violation Hearing, the Board considered allegations that a Student violated Regulation 2 of the Wesleyan University Honor Code.  The Board found the student responsible for violating Regulation 2.  The Student received a “0” zero grade for the assignment.
