Wesleyan Local Co-op

The Wesleyan Local Food Cooperative is a student-organized and -run group whose goal is to bring local, sustainably grown, and delicious food to the Wesleyan community. Wesleyan community members may use their points to purchase the shares they order. We currently have ten groups that make up the cooperative: dairy, cheese, bread, meat, produce, tofu, seitan, mushrooms, preserves and coffee. The individual co-ops and their products are detailed below.

All students, faculty, and staff are eligible to participate in co-ops.

Email questions to wesleyanlocalcoop@gmail.com.  The 2019-20 coordinators are Annie Thompson (aethompson) and Henry Fowler (hcfowler).

Fall 2019 sign-up is now closed.  Spring sign-up will open in February 2020.

  • Participation Details

Sign-up: Co-ops run each semester, usually for 9 weeks.  A sign-up form goes out in February and September each year and will be posted here when active.  All participants must go to Daniel Family Commons on a specific day to pay for the shares they have signed up for.  Cash, check, credit card, points, and Middletown cash are all accepted.

Payment: Participants choose one or more co-ops and pay for each separately.  Payment accepted include WesCard, credit card, or check (made out to Bon Appétit). Participants can split the shares with up to 6 people and may split the shares evenly or unevenly between participants. For example: Sara pays for 50% of 1 bread share while Clare, Jordan, and Isaac split the other 50%.

Declining balance: Dairy, meat, mushrooms, and preserves operate on a declining balance. Participants pay the amount for their shares and then each product purchased during pickups gets deducted from the initial balance. For example: Lola pays $65 for dairy and gets 1 chocolate milk during pickup which is $2.55 points. She then has $62.45 to use for the next pickup.

Weekly and biweekly pickups: Some groups have weekly pickups and others have biweekly pickups.
