Resources for Students

Writing tutors and mentors are experienced undergraduates from a range of disciplines and educational backgrounds who are trained and mentored by professional staff and faculty in the Writing Workshop. Writing tutors and mentors can help writers develop their ideas, construct a claim, add depth to their analysis, develop a persuasive interpretation, organize their writing, refine their style, engage in research skills, and better understand and command the conventions of academic writing. Writing tutors and mentors are not grammarians, nor are they professors or copy-editors. Rather, writing tutors and mentors are trained to help engage you in your writing process, which often means asking questions, taking notes on conversations, offering feedback, and occasionally providing brief and focused instruction.
