The Free Sound Collective, founded by Sam Boston ’25 and Emerson Jenisch ’25 in a co-sponsorship with the Music Department Concert Committee, will present a concert of alternative music featuring Massachusetts’ resident experimental rock band Sunburned Hand of the Man. The group formed in Boston in 1994 under the influences of Sonic Youth and the Melvins. Their music has subsequently expanded to incorporate elements of folk, drone, free jazz, and funk. Since the early 2000s, they have been increasingly associated with the "free folk" movement. Also on the program will be Cambridge-based finger-picker Liam Grant, described by All Songs Considered as having “a raw and wild fingerstyle undercut by youthful sweetness.” Cellist/feedback virtuoso Noa Koffman-Adsit '27 will round out the program.
