Activities

During one's term abroad:

• Take/share photos from day-to-day experiences abroad (at least 50 total photos)
• Host a takeover of the Office of Study Abroad Instagram account
• Write a Wes and the World blog post (1 post; 400-1,000 words)
• Film a short video/vlog about topic of choice (1 video; 2-6 minutes)

Qualifications

• Studying abroad at time of participation
• Dedication to sharing your study abroad experiences with other Wesleyan students
• Experience with blogging, photography, videography, and social media preferred
• Reliability and accountability for overall responsibilities and timely correspondence with the Office of Study Abroad

How to Apply

Outgoing study abroad students will be sent the Global Correspondent application in the final weeks of the semester before they plan to study abroad.

Position Title

Study Abroad Ambassador

Work Basis

Hourly pay, 4 hours per week

Semester, with possibility of extension

Responsibilities

• Appear on the Office of Study Abroad website as a point of contact for students with questions or concerns 
• Advise students during weekly office hours around campus or remotely
• Advocate for the needs of Wesleyan students before, during, and after their study abroad experiences by bringing ideas and suggestions to the Office of Study Abroad staff
• Assist the Office of Study Abroad in planning and executing events such as information sessions, classroom visits, pre-departure orientations, re-entry events, etc.
• Represent the Wesleyan Office of Study Abroad at campus-wide events such as the New Student Orientation, International Education Week, WesFest, etc.
• Create new study abroad resources and collaborate with fellow ambassadors to organize new initiatives on campus related to study abroad
• Attend training at the beginning of semester and regular team meetings throughout the semester

• Dedication to sharing your study abroad experiences with other Wesleyan students
• Passion to support fellow Wesleyan students as they navigate the study abroad process, from pre-departure to re-entry
• A strong desire to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in study abroad
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (writing, public speaking, advising)
• Reliability and accountability for overall responsibilities and timely correspondence with peers and the Office of Study Abroad

Study Abroad Peer Mentor

Work Basis

Volunteer, no minimum work hours

Time Period

Semester, with possibility of extension

Responsibilities

• Appear on the Office of Study Abroad website as a point of contact for students with questions or concerns
• Offer guidance and support to students who contact you with questions about your study abroad experience 
• Advocate for the needs of Wesleyan students before, during, and after their study abroad experiences by bringing ideas and suggestions to Study Abroad Ambassadors or the Office of Study Abroad staff
• Attend training at beginning of semester 

Optional, but encouraged: 

• Participate in events hosted by the Office of Study Abroad during the semester. Events may include pre-departure orientation, the study abroad fair, International Education Week, WesFest, etc.
