Support for Faculty Proposals

The Creative Campus Initiative (CCI) at Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts supports cross-disciplinary collaborations that elevate the place of art, artists, and the artistic process in cross-disciplinary exchange and inquiry. CCI supports faculty in any discipline to meaningfully engage artists as part of new or existing curriculum.  Faculty may apply with an artist-collaborator in mind, or may engage the CFA to help identify an artist-partner and to outline the scope of their involvement in the course. Applicants are encouraged to focus on the potential impact for reciprocal illumination, of both subject matter and modes of inquiry, that the incorporation of art, artists, and artistic process could make in the proposed curriculum.

Preference will be given to strongly cross-disciplinary engagements of longer duration. Questions about the CCI program and application process are encouraged, and can be directed to Rani Arbo (rarbo@wesleyan.edu).

CCI proposals often fall into one of these formats, but may take a different one:

Co-taught courses may be supported at significant levels. Proposals should be for academic year 2024–2025 and may be submitted in preliminary stages.

Co-taught modules of 2-4 classes may be developed and taught by a Wesleyan faculty member and guest(s), or by two Wes faculty members. Guests receive an honorarium and modest support for travel and lodging. Proposals are welcome for Spring 2024 and beyond; departmental co-sponsorship is encouraged.

Visiting artist engagements: These may include class visits, lectures, panels, performances, or exhibitions. CCI may co-sponsor guest artist fees up to $500.

CCI proposals are considered twice annually. Proposals for Spring 2024 and beyond are due by December 11, 2023. A second round of applications will be considered in Spring for Fall 2024 and beyond. Please apply using the Pedagogical Initiative Application Form.
