I am thrilled that you have chosen to attend Wesleyan and I look forward to getting to know you as your class dean over the next four years.

Wesleyan will challenge you to make important choices and take responsibility for your learning. In doing so, those moments will influence your educational and personal goals. By leaning into your curiosity, working hard, understanding the expectations of your professors, and exercising good time management and study skills, you will put yourself in a position of strength from the start.     Academic Advising and Course Selection

    There are a number of people ready to assist you, such as your class dean, faculty advisor, and instructors, with advising resources and processes to help with academic planning and course selection.

    First-Year Seminars (FYS) Summer Course

    You are being offered the opportunity to take a course remotely from home over the summer before matriculating in the University this fall. The summer course curriculum includes writing-intensive First-Year Seminars (FYS). What You Need to Know about the Summer FYS Class
    The course registration process will be open from Thursday, June 8 through Monday, June 19. Every student who submits course preferences during this time period will have an equal chance of getting enrolled into a class. The FYS courses themselves will take place from July 5 to August 10.  While FYS courses are not required, we encourage students to take one either during the summer or the first year, as these are small seminar courses that allow students to engage in college-level academic writing within a cohort of fellow first-year students.

    International Student Orientation (ISO)

    International Student Orientation (ISO) is a pre-orientation planned and coordinated by the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA), and designed for undergraduate international students to build community with their peers, acclimate to the University, and begin exploring the full range of academic and co-curricular opportunities and resources available at Wesleyan.     What You Need to Know about ISO:

    • All incoming undergraduate F-1 visa status international students and self-identifying international students, including US citizens from abroad, dual citizens, and legal permanent residents, are invited to and expected to attend ISO. There is no cost to attend ISO. 
    • All incoming undergraduate international students attending ISO must arrive at Wesleyan to check in for ISO and move into their campus housing during the two-day arrival period, which will be Thursday, August 24 - Friday, August 25. There will be free shuttles from Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut to the Wesleyan campus for incoming international students who arrive during the two-day arrival period.  
    • ISO is a two-day program that runs Saturday, August 26 - Sunday, August 27. Attendees will be guided by their International Student Orientation Leaders (ISOLs) and are required to attend all sessions. 
    • You are welcome to bring your parents/family members with you to campus for arrival period and ISO. There will be some events for parents and family members on Saturday, August 26. If you plan to bring your parents/family members with you to Wesleyan, you must include their information when you complete and submit your ISO Student Registration Form in WesPortal by Friday, July 15.

    Student Involvement

    Student Involvement provides advice, guidance, and acts as a resource for students and student organizations.

    Visit WesNest to begin to learn about student life and the close to 300 clubs and organizations at Wes. The Orientation schedule will be posted here as well. Once you have your Wesleyan credentials you will have more access to the site. However, you can still begin to search for organizations and activities you are interested in and connect directly with student organization leaders.     WesNest is our campus social organizer where you can learn more about campus life and student organizations. It is convenient to have WesNest available on your mobile device. Download Corq the WesNest mobile app. This is a quick and easy way to view the orientation schedule and find events on campus in the future!

    Housing

    During the summer you will be given an opportunity to indicate your preferred housing options through your WesPortal account.

    What You Need to Know about Housing

    • Housing applications will be available in the New Student Checklist and Resources sections of WesPortal in early June.
    • Complete the online application with your preferred housing options before the system closes at 5 p.m. EST on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
    • Housing assignments will be posted through WesPortal in mid-August.

    Health Services

    University Health Services provides comprehensive primary care of illness and injury and is open for appointments with physicians and advanced practitioners six days a week.     • All incoming students must upload completed health/immunization forms by July 5 via our electronic portal. You will find instructions and forms for immunizations and health compliance may be found in Get Ready for Wes Online Orientation via your WesPortal. Your Wesleyan email credentials should be available in early June. Once you have your credentials, please upload forms at https://wesleyan.medicatconnect.com. Follow instructions on the landing page.
    • Please make sure you have records to show compliance with mumps, measles, rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox), and updated meningitis vaccination, as well as tuberculosis screening.  You must also show proof of having a recognized CDC Covid vaccination and booster shot.
    • Completed health information and immunization records must be on file with the Davison Health Center before you can register for classes.
    • All students will be charged for University insurance the first week in July; charges will be reversed for those with waivers showing comparable private insurance.
    • Go to gallagherstudent.com/wesleyan to waive or enroll in University insurance. Health insurance waivers are due by August 15.

    More Information:

    • International students will be scheduled to see a nurse as part of International Student Orientation to review immunization records.
    • Parents are welcome to visit the Davison Health Center or contact us by phone, but students over 18 years of age are entitled to full medical information privacy protection. The Health Center can discuss details of evaluation or treatment only with the student’s signed consent.

    Information Technology Services (ITS)

    Information Technology Services (ITS) oversees the maintenance and management of Wesleyan’s computing facilities and services. Cardinal Technologies is the service-oriented division of ITS and provides both equipment sales and support and printing services. What You Need to Know about ITS
    • WesPortal is a secure system that allows students online access to their course schedule, grades, academic history, student accounts, Moodle (a web-based tool for sharing course assignments and materials), and more. You will be sent a WesPortal account in early June.
    • The ITS student helpdesk provides phone and on-site technical support for student computing issues.
    • Wireless network access is provided throughout campus. Residence halls, upperclassman housing in wood frames, and program housing have wireless-only connectivity to the Wesleyan network on Eduroam.
    • Cardinal Service Center (CSC) is located in Exley Science Center and offers computer repair services for both Apple and PC computers: (860) 685-2700

    Campus Store

    Learn more about the Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore's two locations! What You Need to Know about the Campus Store
    • The Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore is located on Main Street in Middletown. RJ Julia Booksellers provides students with all of their course materials, apparel, gifts, and school supplies. Follow them on Instagram @wesrjjulia for up to date information.
    • The Campus Store in the Usdan University Center is a second location of the RJ Julia Bookstore. They carry technology, apparel, school, and dorm supplies. They are an Apple Authorized Campus Store, but they also sell Dell and Windows computers/accessories. Follow them on Instagram @wescampusstore to learn about Apple's back-to-school promotion as soon as it's announced.
    • Both stores accept Middletown Cash and Student Account for payment! Place an order online for items from either store at www.wesleyanrjjulia.com. Home shipping or in-store pick up available at both locations. 
    • The Campus Store is conveniently located in Usdan for arrival day pick up! This summer, place an online order for your bedding, computer, dorm essentials, school supplies, and Wesleyan gear, and it will be ready for quick pick up when you get to campus! If you start unpacking and realize you forgot your toothbrush or computer charger, stop by anytime to get all your essentials.

    WesCard

    Your personalized WesCard is your ID card and your University dining and library card. It is also your key to the residence halls and campus facilities. Keep it safe! What You Need to Know about WesCard
    • You need to upload a 2x2", front facial photo of yourself, without wearing sunglasses or a hat, and not using filters, to be used on your WesCard by July 1. The photo can be uploaded in the Get Ready For Wes Online Orientation & Resources.
    • You can pick up your WesCard on Arrival Day when you check in for Orientation.
    • You can also choose to load your WesCard with Middletown Cash, an optional debit account that you can use on and off campus for various retail items such as books and supplies at RJ Julia Bookstore or at the Campus Store, at Usdan, and also for services such as mailing, vending, and dining out.

    Student Accounts

    The Student Accounts Office is responsible for billing and collection of tuition, fees, and miscellaneous charges that you can incur while attending Wesleyan.

    What You Need to Know about Student Accounts
    • Student Accounts issues electronic statements each semester for tuition, fees, and the residential comprehensive fee.
    • Your first e-statement of the academic year is sent in July and is payable within 30 days. When statements are ready to be viewed online, an email will be sent to your Wesleyan email address and to your Authorized Users. (You can set up your parents, guardians, or others as Authorized Users through your Student Account online.)
    • Students and Authorized Users can make payments via e-check, personal check or money order, wired international payments through Flywire (for payments from outside the United States), or direct bank wire. For direct bank wire instructions, contact student-accounts@wesleyan.edu.
    • Wesleyan University does not accept payment by debit or credit card.

    • Wesleyan offers interest-free, 5-month payment plans to allow families to finance each semester of university costs. Each semester, there is a $45 enrollment fee; no interest is charged.     Final Transcripts

    Final transcripts become part of your permanent record and are an important tool for you and your advisor in planning your academic program at Wesleyan. What You Need to Know about Final Transcripts
    • You must submit final transcripts to the Office of Admission NO LATER THAN JULY 1.
    • First-year students: Ask your secondary school counselor to submit your final transcript electronically through the Common Application website (Final Report Form), Slate.org, or via email to applicant@wesleyan.edu, or mail to Office of Admission, Wesleyan University, 70 Wyllys Avenue, Middletown, CT 06459.
    • Transfer students: Request that your current institution send a final transcript to Wesleyan’s Office of Admission.

    Standardized Test Scores for Non-Submitters (First-Year Students ONLY)

    Standardized test results are used for academic counseling and placement, as well as for institutional research. What You Need to Know about Standardized Test Scores
    • If you have not submitted official test scores, you will be required to do so before you arrive on campus this fall.
    • All ACT, SAT, and/or SAT subject test scores (if taken) must be submitted.
    • Contact the appropriate testing service to have official score reports sent to Wesleyan University (our ACT code is 0614; our SAT code is 3959).
