Performance Improvement

Any employee having trouble performing their job should seek guidance from their immediate supervisor and/or from Human Resources.

Where appropriate, Wesleyan University may provide coaching and a Performance Improvement Plan for employees whose performance is not meeting expectations. The coaching process may include:

  • Discussion of instances of unsatisfactory job performance or inappropriate conduct;
  • Discussion regarding performance standards; and
  • An opportunity to correct the problem(s).

If the employee’s performance or conduct continues to be unsatisfactory, a supervisor may take further corrective action after consultation with Human Resources. Corrective action may include termination of employment depending on the seriousness of the concern. Employees in bargaining units should consult their union contracts for information on performance improvement procedures.
