STARS Evaluation

STARS (Sustainable Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System) is a transparent, self-reporting framework developed by AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. STARS presents a holistic and accurate opportunity to measure qualitative and quantitative information on a number of sustainability metrics and is designed to:

  • Enable meaningful comparisons over time and across institutions using a common set of measurements.
  • Create incentives for continual improvement toward sustainability.
  • Facilitate information sharing about higher education sustainability practices and performance.
  • Build a stronger, more diverse campus sustainability community.

Wesleyan's STARS Participation

Wesleyan has completed STARS evaluations in 2013 (Gold), 2019 (Silver), 2016 (Silver), and 2013 (Silver).  STARS publishes a detailed report including all responses on the AASHE STARS website; to make it easier to understand, the Sustainability Office has created STARS reports after each evaluation:

Please direct questions about STARS and Wesleyan's answers/participation to Sustainability Director Jen Kleindienst.  Wesleyan will complete its next STARS report in 2025.
