Dear
Wesleyan Parent(s) or Guardian(s):
The
University requires all students
to maintain health insurance that is comparable to the university-sponsored
plan. Every year, a few students have not been allowed to register or have
been billed for unnecessary insurance because they did not complete the
required online forms and thus experienced needless frustration. Please
complete the necessary online forms as soon as possible.
This year,
the Health Center will begin filing claims for visits and services provided
at the Health Center directly to private insurance as we currently do for students
with the university-sponsored plan. All HMO plans such as Kaiser Permanente, out
of state Medicaid plans and international plans not based in the United
States are NOT considered
comparable coverage. Students will no
longer be able to submit a waiver form using these plans and must enroll in
the Student Injury and Sickness Plan.
The Health Center cannot accept these plans for reimbursement. Please review the enclosed benefit
highlights flyer for more specific details about the university-sponsored
plan. There is also a “FAQ” section provided
at the website below.
If you have comparable private
insurance for your student and do not want the university-sponsored plan, please show proof of insurance
(waive) online at www.gallagherkoster.com/wesleyan.
Please remember to keep a copy of the confirmation page you receive once you
have waived online.
If you do not have comparable private
insurance for your student, you MUST ENROLL
online in the university-sponsored plan at www.gallagherkoster.com/wesleyan.
Your students account will be billed $1,305
for the annual insurance plan in mid-August; please do not send payment now. Students who are studying abroad during the fall semester are eligible to purchase
the annual plan and are the only students who can opt to purchase a
fall-only plan.
Wesleyan
University will continue to offer low cost student loans to most students who
need assistance covering the cost of the health insurance policy. Grant
aid assistance will be limited. Please review the financial aid award
letter for specific eligibility. Financial aid adjustments will not
occur until that start of the semester.
A hold may be placed on class registration for failure to show proof of private insurance or enroll in the plan
by August 15. There will be NO
extension of this deadline and a petition will need to be filed after this
date.
