Sonia BasSheva Mañjon, Ph.D.
Dr. Sonia BasSheva Mañjon, Vice President for Diversity and Strategic
Partnerships, leads the civic engagement and diversity efforts at Wesleyan
University. Dr. Mañjon also serves as the Director of Affirmative Action
and represents Wesleyan on various regional and national committees and
associations. She and her staff are committed to enhancing relationships
with private and public organizations as well as increasing diversity within
the university through thoughtful outreach and programs.
Affirmative Action
The Office of Affirmative Action advocates for the interests of students,
faculty, and staff in such areas of student development, student recruitment,
faculty and staff recruitment as well as professional development; curriculum
development; and fostering an inclusive campus climate and culture.

Center for Community Partnerships [CCP]
Anyone with an idea for town-gown collaboration -- Wesleyan students,
faculty, and staff, community members and groups -- is invited to stop in or
contact the staff at CCP. The staff members can figure out how best to access
available resources and information and to identify which offices can best help
with the initiatives. Four offices below comprised the CCP.

Service-Learning Center [SLC]
The SLC encourages and supports the creation of Service-Learning courses
which use service to the community as one part of their course content, a
teaching tool for better understanding of course materials.

Office of Community Services and Volunteerism [OCS]
The OCS fosters community building within the University and with the
communities of Middletown and Middlesex County by offering opportunities to
participate in volunteer work, providing work-study placements, and supporting
student-sponsored social action initiatives.

Office of Community Relations [OCR]
The OCR aims to enhance and maintain collaborative initiatives between
Wesleyan and the greater Middletown community and beyond, as well as to develop
and strengthen partnerships within the Wesleyan campus.

Green Street Arts Center [GSAC]
The GSAC uses arts to transform lives. Under the leadership of Wesleyan, this
Center is a collaborative initiative with the City of Middletown and the North

Center for Prison Education [CPE]
The CPE aims to foster mutually
productive intellectual dialogue between
Wesleyan undergraduates, faculty, and
inmates at Cheshire Prison by offering
college courses to incarcerated individuals,
in order both to enrich the lives of those
who are systematically denied access to
educational opportunities and to enhance
Wesleyan's academic community.

and Student Engagement’s mission is to create
and facilitate a multitude of entryways for the
campus community to contribute their talents,
expertise, interests, and institutional
responsibilities in pursuit of inclusive
excellence.

TRIO/Upward Bound/ConnCAP and Public Schools Collaborative
For over 40 years, Wesleyan's TRIO/Upward Bound/ConnCAP
Program has prepared hundreds of underrepresented local youths for college by
providing rigorous academic summer experiences as well as ongoing academic
enrichment and tutorial support, motivational "boot camps", college visits and
assistance with the challenging college application and financial application
processes. Upward Bound and its affiliated programs work with selected students
from elementary schools (grade 4th and up) to high schools.

Established in 1939, WESU is one of the oldest
non-commercial college radio stations in the United States. WESU offers an
interesting mix of public affairs and free-form music programming to discerning
listeners throughout the Connecticut River Valley.
