As the Director of Survivor Advocacy and Community
Education, a newly created role at Wesleyan, Johanna DeBari serves as a confidential resource to students whom have experienced sexual assault, stalking, dating violence, or other forms of intimate partner violence.

She coordinates and creates training and education programs for sexual violence prevention & healing for students groups, faculty, staff, and administrators, including support groups for students. She also collaborates with community organizations as necessary in advocating for trauma-sensitive policies and services throughout the university.

Johanna earned her Master's of Arts in International Studies, with certificates in Human Rights and Feminist Studies from the University of Connecticut. Her Master's
project focused on framing sexual violence against women on college campuses as a human security threat in an effort to enhance current preventative efforts from a
nuanced perspective. In addition, she has served as a peer educator for Mentors in Violence Prevention at Keene State College from 2011-2014 and a facilitator for the
Violence Against Women Prevention Program at the University of Connecticut during the summer of 2014.

She comes to Wesleyan University from the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury, where she served as the Trainer/Adult Educator. In this role, she oversaw all
professional training programs, including certification training for staff, interns, and volunteers to become Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor/Advocates. She also currently volunteers as a Sexual and Reproductive Rights Advocate Trainer for
Amnesty International, working to integrate human rights education into sexual violence prevention work and ensuring all individuals are aware of their sexual and
    reproductive rights.
