Detention Operations

Angela Naimou • Clemson University

September 7 @ 6 P.M.
Zoom Conference: https://wesleyan.zoom.us/j/95004803269

The current border regime is built along the ruts of empire. Its materials are a mix of new and old tools, including barbed wire, detention centers, prison, train tracks, steel planks, paper, digital technologies, money, agreements, and sites of environmental degradation caused by war, dumping, or extraction. Its operations are a mix of legal systems and procedures into which violent encounters, records, and people themselves fall. This talk explores the conceptual and material traffic between the coloniality of the border regime and its police enforcement. It follows that traffic through literary texts and multi-media artworks by internationally based Iraqi writers and artists.
