Latine Affirmation Month

Every year, the Wesleyan community comes together to celebrate Latine Affirmation Month in October with a variety of events, initatives, performances, and celebrations.  Please come out and support as many of the great events listed below as you are able!

Kinra Film Screening

  • Event Time and Date: Wednesday, October 1st from 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

  • Event Description:  (attendance open to the public) 2024. Peru. Dir: Marco Panatonic. 157 Minutes. (Free). A young man from the Andes migrates to the city of Cusco seeking a future as a civil engineer. He forms a bond with a friend who takes him in, and gradually builds a new life - studying, working, and adapting to urban rhythms. Yet his heart remains torn between his mother, sister, and the land where he grew up.

 

 

Social Latin Dance

  • Event Description: (attendance open to the public) A fun, informal event focused on community and enjoyment to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. 

 

 

Internship program opportunities by T.Howard foundation

  • Event Description:  (attendance open to Wesleyan students only) Join a representative from the Internship Program at the T. Howard Foundation and a Wesleyan student currently participating in the program to learn about paid internship opportunities in the entertainment industry. The T. Howard Foundation’s mission is to expand access and opportunity in media and entertainment by helping students from underrepresented backgrounds get a foot in the door. About the Opportunity: Applications are open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a minimum 2.8 GPA. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Opportunities are available in remote, in-person, and hybrid formats in NYC, Boston, LA, Atlanta, and Miami. The T. Howard Foundation Internship Program is a national leader in providing underrepresented college students with access to internships and career development in media, entertainment, and tech. Open to all majors, the Foundation offers two internship tracks: Core Track: Art & Design, Business, Communications, People & Policy Tech Track: STEM Since 1993, over 1,500 students have interned with 40+ innovative host companies, including Hearst, FOX, Major League Baseball (MLB), and Warner Bros. Discovery. The Foundation continues to support talent beyond internships through resume prep, interview coaching, scholarship opportunities, mentorship, and comprehensive Career & Alumni Services.

 

 

O Corno (a.k.a The Rye Horn) Film Screening

  • Event Description:  (attendance open to the public) 2023. Spain/Iberia, not Latin America. Dir: Jaione Camborda. 105 Minutes. (Free). Illa of Arousa, 1971. María earns her living fishing and also helps other women in their deliveries. After an unexpected event, she is forced to flee from her and begins a dangerous journey that will make her fight for her survival.

Llueve sobre Babel (a.k.a. Rains Over Babel) Film Screening

  • Event Description:  (attendance open to the public) 2025. Colombia. Dir: Gala del Sol. 113 min. (Free). A peculiar reimagining of Dante’s Inferno as a choral queer drama. Set in an urban scene, the action revolves around a bar where several characters have dealings with the incarnation of Death. Psychedelic, mystical and drenched in a camp, tropical spirit!

 

 

Monólogo Colectivo (a.k.a Collective Monologue) Film Screening

32nd Annual Expresiones LAM Performance Showcase

Conversation with Broadway Actors: Aline Mayagoitia and Jennifer Sanchez

  • Event Description:  (attendance open to Wesleyan students only) Please join Professor Maria-Christina Oliveras in conversation with Broadway performers, Aline Mayagoitia and Jennifer Sanchez.  Aline hails from Mexico City and her extensive credits include Six, and the upcoming, Kiss of a Spiderwoman. Jennifer’s selected Broadway credits include Elf, Pretty Women, On Your Feet and West Side Story.  They were both most recently seen in Real Women Have Curves.
