Rococo & Revolution: French painting in the 18th and early 19th century

Art used as propaganda will be emphasized, highlighting the works of Jacques-Louis David and political cartoons first introduced during the tumultuous years of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic era that followed. The question to be addressed: to what extent did art help the revolutionary cause as well as establishing and maintaining the imperial power that followed?
