April 2023

Dear Parents and Families of Students in the Class of 2024:

After enjoying one of the shortest and warmest winters in my personal eleven-year experience in Connecticut, students, faculty, and staff alike are now welcoming spring and the change of seasons as the cherry trees and daffodils come into bloom across campus. The next few weeks will be an emotion-filled time for students as they wrap up their coursework and squeeze time out of their busy schedules to spend some time with friends they may not see for the summer period. Classes will end on Wednesday, May 10, followed by a five-day reading week. Final exams will take place Tuesday, May 16 through Friday, May 19, and University housing will close at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20.

By now, students are in the process of arranging housing for next year and wrapping up pre-registration for the courses they will be taking next semester. For students who will be undertaking an honors thesis, the next couple of weeks represent an opportunity to touch base with the thesis advisor to finalize any summer research plans. This can also be a good time to make a quick visit to the Gordon Career Center to touch up one’s resume or to develop a strategy for applying for jobs or graduate schools upon return to campus in the fall. Again, if your student is looking for advice on how to approach these processes, please let them know that the door to my office is always open.

Can you imagine by this time next year the members of the Class of 2024 will be finishing their final chapter on their undergraduate careers? Now is an excellent time to recall what is needed to receive a Wesleyan diploma. A student must meet all four of Wesleyan’s graduation requirements: 32 credits without oversubscription, completion of a major, residency (six semesters for most students, but four or five if a junior or sophomore transfer), and a GPA of at least 74.00. While most students are well aware of where they stand in relation to these requirements, if your student has any questions, please urge them to make an appointment to see me as soon as possible. Resolving any outstanding issues now can spare a lot of consternation later!

I will be writing to you again at the beginning of the next academic year. In the meantime, have a wonderful summer and please do not hesitate to call or write if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Bill Bisese, Ed.D.
