April 2023

Dear Parents and Families of Students in the Class of 2025:

The end of the spring semester marks the halfway point of your sophomore’s undergraduate career. With two years under their belt and two more to go, students often find these last two years move even more quickly than their first two years at Wesleyan. Spring 2023 classes end on Wednesday 5/10 followed by a 5-day reading period. Finals will run from Tuesday 5/16 through Friday 5/19. Campus housing closes at 1:00pm on Saturday 5/20.

All sophomores have declared their major(s) and will soon be matched with a faculty advisor if they have not been matched already. If you believe your student needs guidance about their chosen major, or if they have questions about adding additional credentials such as another major, minor, or certificate, please have them chat with their faculty advisor or schedule an appointment with me to talk more.

As I shared in my last outreach, the summer between sophomore and junior year can set the tone for the last two years of a student’s Wesleyan career. Whether students participate in volunteer efforts, explore internships or earn money for school, these months are a great time for students to self-reflect in preparation for life beyond Wesleyan. If your student is unsure about how they want to spend their summer, encourage them to make an appointment at the Gordon Career Center or talk with faculty about potential research or internship opportunities. The Wesleyan Summer Session may be another option for your student. Our summer courses provide opportunities for students to round out their academic experience or explore the curriculum during a time less busy than the regular school year.

Another resource to talk about with your Cardinal is LinkedIn Learning on WesPortal. LinkedIn Learning is a free, online educational platform available to students to discover and develop business, technology-related, and creative skills through expert-led course videos. Was there a course this past semester that your student wanted to take but could not fit into their schedule? They may be able to find the same topic on LinkedIn Learning. LinkedIn Learning is a great tool for students especially when they are on an extended break from classes as is the case with the summer months.

Congratulations on making it to the halfway mark. I look forward to cherishing these final two years with you and your student. Best wishes for a happy and healthy summer

Take care,
