Dear Parents and Guardians of Students in the Class of 2024:

Our fall foliage in Middletown is just about gone, and students have started setting their sights on the end of the semester, making plans to prepare for final papers, projects, and exams. In just a week or so, Thanksgiving Break will be upon us (November 22–November 26), followed by the last day of classes (December 8), reading period (December 9–December 12) and final exams (December 12-16). Housing will close at 12:00 noon on Sunday, December 17 and will reopen at 10:00 a.m. on January 21. For students participating in Winter Session, housing opens on January 8, classes begin on January 9, with reading period and finals taking place January 23-24. Students who need to remain on campus during the winter break must apply to do so by November 16, 2023. It is important to note that housing is not guaranteed, and some University residences will remain closed throughout winter break which means some approved students will relocate to a temporary assignment. More information can be found on the ResLife website. Regular, spring semester classes begin on January 25.

It may certainly seem like yesterday your student was just getting settled into Wesleyan, but none of the experience was routine. As with all our lives, Covid-19 was at its height and all of us stepped bravely forward in continuing our students’ opportunity to earn their college degree. Now the pandemic is over, and your student is nearly a college graduate. You may want to take a few moments to step back from this experience to contemplate the personal growth and intellectual development that has taken place in your student since first arriving in fall 2020. Students have made tremendous strides, and they are just about ready to complete the final leg of the journey.

If your student has not yet engaged, now is a great time to visit the Gordon Career Center and to begin translating their education into meaningful work at the beginning of next summer. The center offers a wide range of services to help students navigate their career journey, including career advising, document review, and recruiting/educational programming. For students planning on graduate school, applications are nearly due at most institutions across the country.

Finally, as you gather with family for the Thanksgiving celebration, please remember graduation will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2024. This will mark Wesleyan’s 191st graduation ceremony. What a long and proud tradition in which to take part! Senior housing closes on Monday, May 27 at 4:00 p.m.

I will be writing to you again early next year. In the meantime, please feel free to call or write if you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes,
