Dear Parents and Families of Students in the Class of 2025:

The brilliant colors of the fall have come and gone as students set their sights on end of semester projects, papers and exams. Hopefully your Cardinal is able to get some rest during Thanksgiving Recess (11/22–11/26) which is quickly followed by the last day of classes (12/8). After a handful of reading days (12/9–12/12) and final exams (12/12–12/16), housing closes for the fall semester at noon on Sunday, 12/17 and reopens at 10am on Sunday, 1/21/24. Students who need to remain on campus during the winter break must apply to do so by November 16, 2023. It is important to note that wither break housing is not guaranteed, and some University residences will remain closed throughout winter break (which means some approved students will relocate to a temporary assignment). More information can be found on the ResLife website. Students who are currently abroad or on leave will select their spring housing assignment through the university’s new housing software. Specific information and instructions was sent directly to those students.

Now that you’ve had a couple of years to settle into the Wesleyan routine, you may want to step back from this experience for a few moments to contemplate your student’s growth and development so far. Much learning (academic, social, personal, spiritual, political) has taken place in the Class of 2025 since they arrived on campus just a few short years ago.

You’ve likely seen transformation in your student. Perhaps they were overwhelmed by the workload in the first semester and have now learned how to manage time and juggle multiple responsibilities. Perhaps they have emerged from the social cocoon of high school and have developed friendships with students from other parts of the world with diverse interests and backgrounds. Or perhaps they have discovered a passion for learning in a field of study that they didn’t know existed prior to Wesleyan. Now is a good time to ask your student to reflect on any changes with questions such as: “What have you learned about yourself in the past two years?,” “How has Wesleyan helped you change your understanding of the world?,” and “How is Wesleyan helping you shape your future?”

I will write to you again in the next couple of months. In the meantime, please feel free to call or write if you have any questions or concerns.

Take care,
