Spring in Connecticut

Spring finally seems to have sprung here in Connecticut. Despite the chilly mornings, folks are out on Foss Hill by the afternoons, the tables outside Usdan are filling up, and we begin to feel the final stretch of the semester approach. Senior theses are due this week and many of the final rehearsals are underway for the semester’s remaining performances and concerts.

As always, our athletes are competing at the highest level. The crew teams don’t get a lot of visibility on campus, but they are once again doing an incredible job in tournaments at which they race against the best. The women’s team is ranked sixth in the country, and they just gave every other boat a run for their money on the Malden River in Massachusetts. Our men’s team also did exceptionally well up at Tufts and are currently ranked #2 in the country. Rowers, you may not hear us, but we are cheering you on!

And don’t forget those tennis players, even though we may have gotten used to their excellence over the years. The men just had a great run through Trinity and Colby before falling to a very tough Bowdoin team in Maine. The women’s team, meanwhile, defended their #3 national ranking against Bowdoin, having already dispatched Colby and Tufts. And baseball just captured the Little Three! Go Wes!

Shifting back to campus, there is one last installment of the senior art shows at the Zilkha Gallery this week. I’ve managed to see the work of our studio art majors each week, and I am so impressed by the quality, variety, and intense ingenuity they display. Check out the new work beginning tomorrow, April 14.
