Basak Kus

Professor Kus received her PhD from UC Berkeley. Her scholarship to date has focused on comparative study of economic crises and liberalization reforms; restructuring of the welfare state; state-labor union relations; regulation of the financial sector; state’s role in the development of the private sector and the informal economy; financialization and the politics of inequality, and the sociology of debt. She has recently completed a book manuscript looking at the evolution of the state-finance relationship in the US since the early 1970s as the backdrop to the financial crisis, and the political developments that emerged in its aftermath (full ms under review). Her current research interests focus on two main topics: (1) Green Economy Initiatives; (2) Political Economy of Law
