FREE!

The Marian Consort is a nine-person professional vocal ensemble whose discography includes an album of motets by the Portuguese composer Vicente Lusitano, the first published composer of African descent. Likely born around 1522, his Liber primus epigramatum was issued in Rome in 1551. This will be the first time his music has been performed at Wesleyan.

Before their concert, the Marian Consort will hold a workshop with students in Wesleyan’s Collegium Musicum, directed by Jane Alden, Professor of Music, and Chair and Professor of Medieval Studies.

Co-sponsored by Wesleyan's African American Studies Program, Medieval Studies Program, Music Department, Religion Department, and Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.
