When we move, you move! In this edition of WesGrooves, CFA student organizers join forces with FXT, Wesleyan’s student hip-hop club, to present a hip-hop dance lesson and party with New York-based dance artist and teacher Jojo Brooks.
WesGrooves explores the rigor, play and joy of social dance styles from around the globe. Every event includes a beginner dance lesson, open dancing to live or recorded music, and light refreshments. All are warmly invited to bring friends, make new connections, and express your creativity on the WesGrooves dance floor!
22-year-old Jojo Brooks was born and raised in New Jersey. Brooks’ dance journey started out with Guinea West African Dance with Zawadi School of African Dance at age 3. Soon after, Brooks fell into almost every other style of dance with Inspirational Dance Company. At the age of 16 is when she decided to join the NYC dance community in hopes to pursue her craft more seriously. She found herself at Brickhouse NYC, and has trained under Kelly Peters for around 6 years. Some accomplishments include appearances with the Monsters of Hip Hop Cast, Maybelline Vinyl Ink Global Commercial, Rauw Alejandro X Amazon Music Promo, The Equalizer, Macy’s Day Parade, and Adidas. She has also had the opportunity to teach at studios such as Modega and Brickhouse, as well as work with collegiate teams at Fordham University and Northeastern University. Brooks always prides herself as a student first as she tries to plant her feet in the industry.
