Free and open to the public.

Wesleyan’s Central Asian Music Ensemble performs a spring concert exploring the connection between music, sound, and animistic worldviews in Central Asian nomadic cultures under the direction of Saida Daukeyeva, Assistant Professor of Music, Medieval Studies, and of Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. The ensemble program features instrumental tunes and songs that evoke images of nature, animals, and birds.

The Central Asian Music Ensemble is dedicated to the study and performance of music from a region at the crossroads of Eurasia, encompassing the post-Soviet states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Founded in the fall of 2023, the ensemble includes Kazakh and Kyrgyz plucked and bowed lutes, plucked zithers, end-blown flutes, clay ocarinas, jaw harps, frame drums, and other percussion instruments.

Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. We encourage you to RSVP to help us with our planning and to get a reminder the day before this event. While RSVPs are not required for entry, they are a big help! While you're on campus, feel free to talk with our gallery assistants about the exhibitions and other upcoming special programs, like our student-led tours.
