Requirements

The Education Studies minor is awarded to students who complete five courses from an approved curriculum plus a half-credit or equivalent practicum. For the most up-to-date information, we suggest that students look at the Major guidelines. The Major guidelines explain the five requirements that pertain to the Minor: the .5-credit Gateway course, the Foundations courses, three Breadth categories, and Pedagogy & Practicum requirements. The Minor is identical to the Major except that it is five fewer credits: students in the Minor do not need credits in Electives, Broader Contexts, or the Senior Seminar.

The supervising faculty maintains a list of suggested courses that can be found on the About the Minor page. Students may request that other courses be used to fulfill the requirements by submitting an override request through their portfolio, and emailing Prof. Anna Shusterman with a justification. The email should provide a full description of the education-related content of the course (e.g., from the detailed syllabus) and describe how it fulfills the requirements of the minor equivalently to approved courses. Courses from other institutions may be used but must first be accepted for transfer credit by the relevant Wesleyan academic department or program.
