Dear Parents and Families of the Class of 2028,
Hello, and greetings from Middletown! While January can bring chilly days and snow, campus is beautiful as always as we get ready for the return of students for the spring semester. The second half of sophomore year is an exciting time; you probably noticed your student(s) feels more confident about their experience at Wesleyan, and they are ready to dive deeper into their interests both in and out of the classroom. Below, I am including important information and dates, as you help your student(s) get ready to return to campus.
University housing opens on Sunday, January 18 at 10 a.m., and classes begin on Thursday, January 22. Please keep this in mind as your student(s) plan their travels back to campus. The registration drop/add period starts on January 22 and ends on February 4 when spring semester schedules must be finalized.
The Spring 2026 Semester is one when sophomores will select their major! Major declaration opens in WesPortal on February 5, after the drop/add period ends. While it can seem overwhelming, there are various resources on campus ready to help your student(s) make the best decision for them as they go through the process. The Gordon Career Center (GCC) is an excellent place to start, especially if students don’t quite know what they want to declare. The GCC has a plethora of resources and programs available to help navigate the declaration process. Please encourage your student(s) to meet with their faculty advisor to discuss options and the declaration process. As always, students can always meet with me! I am happy to answer any questions they may have. Students should declare their major by March 27, and more information about the process can be found on the major declaration webpage.
There are a few other important dates to keep in mind. Spring Break will start on Saturday, March 7 and end on Sunday, March 22. Finally, as you start to think about summer plans and coordinating travel back home for your student(s), the last day of class is Wednesday, May 6, and university housing closes on Saturday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m. A more comprehensive list of important dates can be found on the academic calendar.
I am looking forward to a great spring semester! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
William M. Bisese, Ed.D.
