Dear Families and Friends of the Class of 2027:
As we approach the end of the fall semester, our juniors are as busy as usual and looking forward to Thanksgiving Break from November 26 to November 30. They should use that break to rest, but they should also start to prepare for final papers and exams, as it can be a straight sprint to the end of term once we return to campus. Please urge your students to keep in mind the grading mode deadline for applicable courses (11/25) and the withdrawal deadline (12/5), and please urge them to connect with their advisors, instructors and me with any questions.
Following the end of classes on December 12, we will have a Reading Period from December 13-15 and then final exams will run from December 16-20. University housing will close on December 21 at noon. It’s a hectic time of year, so please encourage your student to prioritize their health and to practice self-care.
As the term comes to an end, please ask your student to reflect on the fall semester by asking if they're enjoying the courses in their major, and if they've visited the Gordon Career Center this term to learn more about internships for the summer. I always love to ask students what they have learned about themselves this semester, both inside and outside of the classroom. If you have a sense that it was a difficult term for your student, please ask if they have connected with me at any point, as I am always glad to meet.
Please continue to encourage your students to explore the curriculum outside of their major, as I’ve seen many students discover interests that have either complemented their major field, allowed them to enjoy learning about something else entirely, or have enabled students to pursue a minor.
This is also a good time for students to learn more about fellowships, and we’ll be having an information session on the senior thesis in mid-February, so I'll be sending information out about that opportunity in the next week.
I will be writing to you again in the spring. In the meantime, please feel free to call or email if you have any questions or concerns.
Best wishes,
Jennifer Wood
