Orientation Highlights

Here are some of the highlights of Orientation that you should look out for once you get to Wesleyan. You'll be able to check WesNest for exact times and locations.

WesTalks

WesTalks are focused on the values, community, and resources that help first year students spark conversations and connections that help shape the foundation of their college experience at Wesleyan. Through WesTalks, students will be able to engage in meaningful conversations about a variety of selected topics that help them build a foundational understanding of what it means to be a Wesleyan student. There are six (6) WesTalks throughout Orientation and are required events for first-year and new transfer students.

Class Photo and President's Remarks

There are few moments in your Wesleyan career where you'll be with everyone from your class at once. One is graduation - and the other is for this photo! Join us to document the first day of your time at Wesleyan, hear a speech from President Michael Roth, your Student Body President, and be welcomed by the members of the Orientation Planning Committee.

Orientation Group Meetings

The Orientation Group meetings are at the heart of Orientation. Lead by Orientation Leaders, these sessions will help you acclimate to Wesleyan and discuss topics and other issues that might come up during your time at Wesleyan.

Academic Forum

Professors and other representatives from departments and programs at Wesleyan will be available to answer your questions about major requirements and course offerings, as well as to discuss electronic Permission of Instructor and Pre-Requisite Override. AP/Placement exam course recommendations can be finalized at the forum.

First Year Matters:

The purpose of Wesleyan's First Year Matters program is to provide a shared experience for the entire class as well as an introduction to intellectual life at Wesleyan. Dr. Kinari Webb, author of this year's common reading; Guardians of the Trees: A Journey of Hope Through Healing the Planet, will address incoming students and talk about their book and experiences.

Common Moment

Common Moment is an annual Orientation tradition that brings new students together in movement. Students will learn a dance from around the globe, and have the opportunity to perform for their peers. Dances are simple, energetic, and fun!

Waste Not Tag Sale

Waste Not is an annual tag sale held move-in weekend that is run by Sustainability Interns and student volunteers. All items from the sale are collected in May during move-out and help you to create an awesome space! Items range in price from less than $1 to $25-50+ for furniture. Cash or check only. All proceeds keep Waste Not self-sufficient and benefit local nonprofits, environmentally-based projects, and financial aid. Make sure to get here early to get the best stuff!

In the Company of Others

In the Company of Others is a presentation of autobiographical monologues written and presented by current students.  Students share personal stories around issues of identity.  Each year, they represent a broad range of topics and experiences -- moving and powerful, often funny, and always thought provoking.

"Sunday Serenade" - A Capella Concert

Check out Wesleyan's talented a cappella groups at what will probably be your only opportunity all year to hear so many a Capella groups in one place at the same time!
