ADMISSION VOLUNTEERS
Welcome to WAAV! (Wesleyan Alumni Admission Volunteers). Alumni support in the admission process is a critical component in our efforts to attract the strongest candidates from across the country and abroad.
The primary activities for WAAV are representing Wesleyan at college fairs around the country and abroad and conducting interviews with prospective students. For the alumni interview process, prospective students request an alumni interview via our website. Each WAAV has an alumni portal where they can view any students who have requested interviews, as well as keep track of those interviews you have “claimed” and completed. The two parties decide on the meeting place and time, and then engage in a conversation that typically lasts 30 to 40 minutes. Once the interview is complete, the WAAV goes to their portal and submits an evaluation reviewed as part of the interviewee’s application by the Office of Admission. A WAAV can use their portal to “claim” a college fair event as well. These are a great opportunity to for a WAAV to connect with students from their local area over the course of a few hours. Our office sends a package of materials and directions for how to prepare for the fair and the WAAV attends and sends feedback about the event to the admission office.
Getting involved with the WAAV program helps ensure that the students in your community who lack the time and/or resources to get to campus have an equal opportunity to attach a personality to Wes by virtue of their interaction with you. Your involvement also helps ensure that Wesleyan continues to attract and enroll students who represent various geographic, socio-economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
If you are interested in joining the WAAV team, please fill out the WAAV sign up form and one of our staff will be in touch with you!
