Arrival Day Information

Greetings from Wesleyan!

We are excited to welcome you and your student to campus very soon!  The following is information to help facilitate a smooth arrival to Wesleyan and to prepare you for activities happening during New Student Arrival Day: August 28, 2024.

International students, First Things First participants and fall athletes should follow specific instructions from their program or coach and can disregard the following information regarding the August 24th move-in process. Please read the last section regarding the orientation program.

Move-In Appointments, Parking & Directions:

  • By August 5th, all new students will be able to view their room assignment in their WesPortal.  Students will be able to select a move-in timeslot in their WesPortal which occur between 9 AM - 1 PM on Wednesday, August 28th.  All move-ins are by appointment specific to your assigned residence hall.
  • To minimize traffic congestion, and to ensure we have adequate support to help you unload your vehicle, we are asking all new students and families to adhere to their designated move-in appointment.  Once your vehicle is unloaded, all cars must move to a parking lot for the remainder of the day.   You will be given instructions / directions to the closest lot. There will not be any on-street parking available. Please do not leave your vehicles unattended while unloading.
  • Please use the following address in GPS to get to campus: 303 High Street, Middletown, CT. Once you turn on to High Street, please turn off GPS and follow the signs to your specific residence hall, GPS will no longer be reliable.

Check-In Process:

  • Once you arrive at your designated unloading site, you will be directed to check-in, they will need a picture ID. There will be signage to help guide you and plenty of staff on hand to answer any questions!
  • Please ensure you have completed all the required items in their New Student Checklist, especially the submission of all health forms.  Students will not be allowed to move in until this has been completed.

Move-In Tips and Information:

  • There will be limited carts and moving bins available during move-in and you are encouraged to bring your own if possible.
  • Label your boxes / items with the your name, building and room number prior to arriving at campus.  This will help us locate the owner if any items are lost.
  • Check the weather!  You never know when you need an umbrella.  Be sure to bring your personal water bottles as it is usually very hot!
  • Pick up your packages.  The mailroom is in the basement of the Usdan Center (45 Wyllys Ave.)  They also have limited carts that students may borrow by leaving their WesCard.
  • Please note that that there will be construction occurring on campus, especially on Lawn Ave near the Butterfields.
  • Most of our first-year residences do not have elevators.  Please plan accordingly.
  • If you do not have student renter's insurance, you are encouraged to explore options. Renter's insurance is relatively low in cost and sometimes more comprehensive than family homeowner policies. Student renter's insurance can cover both theft and damage. The University does not reimburse or replace students' personal belongings. While the university does not recommend one particular company, and there are several options available, here are some reputable companies to consider:

    Gallagher

    GradGuard

    National Student Services, Inc.
  • For last minute or forgotten items, the Campus Store in Usdan stocks affordable dorm supplies including bedding, toiletries, technology and more. Check with them first before heading off campus to shop for dorm gear!
