Faculty-in-Residence

Tracy Heather Strain, Corwin-Fuller Professor of Film Studies and Randall MacLowry, University Professor of Film Studies, Co-Directors of WesDocs, are the inaugural Faculty-in-Residence at the Center for the Humanities. The aim of the Faculty Residency is to provide both campus space and Center resources to support collaborative scholarly enterprises that advance the Center’s mission and make substantive contributions to humanistic inquiry in the humanities and interpretive social sciences at Wesleyan. During their residency, Professors Strain and MacLowry will develop new works including John Henry: Unmasking America’s Real First Black Superhero, examining centuries of changing representations of the legendary steel-driving man in popular culture; Survival Floating, a historical and contemporary dive into Black peoples’ relationships with water and swimming, and initial research for My Hood Is the Burbs, a historical exploration of African American suburban experiences.
