The collection is available for viewing and study by faculty, students, descendant communities, and visiting researchers. Often overlooked as a primary data source, these objects speak to the human experience in a way that texts often cannot.  They also provide an important point of departure for discussing museum ethics and the colonialist attitudes that guided 19th-century collecting practices.
