
Sociology at Wesleyan explores life as it is lived in and through institutional structures and dynamic social formations—from the intimate, micro-interactions of everyday life to macro-dynamics of global power. The faculty of the Sociology Department offers courses in a variety of fields including social theory, social movement, critical media studies, sexualities, family, gender, race & ethnicity, education, inequality, globalization, economy & development, work, leisure, healthcare, urban sociology, religious movements, philanthropy, political sociology, and sociological methods of analysis.

DATES TO REMEMBER FOR HONORS AND SENIOR ESSAY WRITERS
1) Essays written by registered
Honors Candidates are due
Friday, February 10, 2012.
2) Any registered Honors
Candidate whose essay has been advanced to the “Oral
Defense” stage of faculty
deliberations will defend the essay in March (after
Spring Break).
3) Students and Faculty may
nominate essays to be considered for Sociology
Department prizes.
Nominations (with accompanying essays) are due Friday,
April 13, 2012.
4) Final drafts of Essays begun in the fall are due Friday, April 20, 2012.
5) Final drafts of Spring Essays are due the last day of class.
